Ms. Maki, an award-winning insurance agent and owner of Maki Insurance Group, is distinguished for her expertise, dedication and excellent customer service delivery. Since founding her firm in 2013, she has separated herself from her competition, earning numerous recognitions: first place in the Best of the Region for an Insurance Agent for 2022 and second place for 2021, a Founders Award from Erie Insurance, and a nomination for the Most Influential Women in Northwest Indiana for 2022.
The impetus for Ms. Maki to start her own firm, ironically, stemmed from a professional setback; in 2012, she was laid off from her position as a consumer products specialist with Sentry Insurance. Encouraged by her husband, she decided to set out on her own, drawing upon her extensive network and referrals from mortgage companies and lenders. Starting from scratch, she successfully built her own business, an achievement that she credits to hard work and the support of individuals around her.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Maki held positions with Chicago Auto Club Group, Sentry Insurance, Indiana University Northwest and Saint Joseph's College, Rensselaer IN. Before embarking on her professional journey, she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, cum laude, from St. Joseph's College, Rensselaer IN and a Master of Business Administration, cum laude, from Indiana University Northwest. As an ongoing commitment to her profession, she is a member of the Professional Insurance Agents and the Schererville Chamber of Commerce. In the coming years, she hopes to expand her business and build a larger building.
Outside of work, Ms. Maki is dedicated to civic advocacy in her community. During the pandemic, she helped families in need by paying off lunch balances for students at a local school and by donating $500 worth of McDonalds gift cards during Christmas. She donates to Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids, Girls on the Run and other charities. Married with two children, she enjoys watching her children's sporting events and traveling.
