Having garnered decades of experience in the kitchen, Mr. Wood is the owner and head chef at Eco Caters and SuperFd Inc. since 2013 and 2015, respectively. Both located in Washington, D.C., his two businesses have been thriving since inception. Joining Eco Caters as co-owner, Chef Wood focuses on providing exceptional catering services to the communities of Washington D.C. and Los Angeles by offering high-quality food and sustainable practices for private and corporate events. Meanwhile, SuperFd Inc. has become recognized as a premier sports nutrition provider throughout the U.S. for delivering food to clients that is well-balanced, high in nutrition, and prepared by a team of experienced chefs that work in partnership with trainers, nutritionists, and physicians. Among a myriad of customers, SuperFd Inc. provides services to the Washington Capitals, the L.A. Kings, the Wizards, the Mystics from the Women's National Basketball Association, and many other teams from across the country.
Mr. Wood began experimenting with food when he was just 13 years old. Since that time, he has developed a passion for the art, earning his first role as a sous chef at The Burntstone Brewhouse in Athens, Georgia, in 1997 and subsequently as the head cook at The Brown Place in Denver from 2000 to 2002. At the age of 23, Mr. Wood was named the executive chef at Georges of Tybee in Tybee Island, Georgia, in 2002, where he spent the next six years. Among other noteworthy roles, he was the opening executive chef at The Chesapeake Room from 2010 to 2011 and the culinary director at Sur La Table between 2011 and 2012. Mr. Wood also owned and operated his first business from 2007 to 2009, Green Tomato Concepts, and was a consultant chef for various companies in the D.C. area between 2012 and 2013 where he helped clients prepare to open a restaurant for the first time with menu design, staffing, product sourcing, and more.
For more than 20 years, Mr. Wood has been giving back to his community by participating in numerous charitable initiatives and other events that support worthy causes. He is presently active on the board of advisors at Stag Vets Inc. since 2020, as a volunteer member and board of directors at Kid Power Inc. since 2014 and 2017, respectively, and as a chef instructor at D.C. Central Kitchen since 2010. Chef Wood worked with the Washington Capitals to create a cookbook to benefit DC Central Kitchen in 2017 as well. Previously, Mr. Wood was affiliated with the Memorial Health Foundation, the Union Mission/Starfish Café, and America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia Inc. He was also very active during the COVID-19 pandemic, where his companies were able to leverage their resources to feed first responders and secure several professional athletes to deliver the food to them. On Mother's Day 2020, Chef Wood and his team notably prepared meals for approximately 5,000 nurses.
Mr. Wood completed coursework in international business at the University of Georgia from 1996 to 1999. Highlighting his accomplishments since that time, he was recognized by the D.C. Department of Energy and Environment with a Sustainability in the District Award for SuperFd Inc. in 2017 and with a Sustainability in the District Award for Eco Caters in 2020. Furthermore, Mr. Wood's brands were both named among the Top 20 Catering Companies in D.C. by the Washington Business Journal for several years running. Early in his career Chef Wood repeatedly earned "The Silver Spoon Award" at Georges' of Tybee from Georgia Business Trends Magazine for top ten restaurants in the state and earned "Best Chef" 2006 from the Savannah Connect Magazine. In addition to his accolades, Mr. Wood was featured in articles in The Washington Post and The Washington Business Journal among many others, as well as having recipes featured in local and regional cookbooks, national magazines and on various television airings.
