From 1977 until his retirement in 2008, he was the director of business management, focusing his efforts on programs and contracts negotiation and management. He was responsible for numerous programs at the company, including their missiles and satellites. During his tenure, he was the first person who negotiated the first GPS contract for reaction and control systems for all the GPS satellites at Rockwell International, which was later acquired by Boeing.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Mr. Abner served as the president of the foundation board for the Lake Washington Institute of Technology for two years. He was also a board member for Imagine Housing, an organization that built low-income housing for people around the east side, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond and other suburban areas near Seattle, Washington.
Accounting for his professional successes, Mr. Abner credits his amicable attitude, allowing him to get along well with all his colleagues and customers. He also held his assertiveness in high esteem, which ensured he was well-respected overseeing the financial progress of the company while managing a staff of 18 employees.
