A recognized academic, highly regarded for his administrative efforts and faculty governance, Dr. Jack (John) J. Kasulis has spent his entire 45-year career in education at the University of Oklahoma. Influenced by the stellar example of his father's career in marketing for a supermarket chain, he found his place in the marketing field through education, an area that he continues to enjoy thoroughly.

At the beginning of his professional journey, Dr. Kasulis matriculated at the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in marketing in 1967 and a Master of Business Administration in marketing in 1972. During that time, he gained initial teaching experience as a teaching associate in the evenings.

Before assuming a faculty position at the University of Oklahoma (OU), Dr. Kasulis worked as a sales representative with Sun Oil Co. and enlisted in the United States Army, serving a two-year tour as a military policeman at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. In these posts, his duties included serving at burial ceremonies at West Point's military cemetery, interacting with tourists and invited guests, and performing routine police work such as crowd and traffic control and security and minor administrative functions.

Dr. Kasulis began his tenure at the Michael F. Price College of Business at the University of Oklahoma in 1975, serving as an assistant and associate professor of business administration until being appointed as the Ruby K. Powell Professor of Marketing and Supply Chain Management in 2014. He served under this distinguished title for six years until 2020, when he commenced his retirement and was honored as professor emeritus.

A prolific writer and researcher as well, he has been published in more than 65 publications and has conducted 20 contract research studies and numerous presentations. Additionally, he has provided strategic consulting services for entities of the following areas: electric cooperatives, heavy construction equipment, general merchandise stores, supermarkets, furniture stores, automotive stores, auto/truck travel stops, media, weather, city government and hardware stores.

In addition to his teaching positions at the university, Dr. Kasulis served in numerous administrative positions, including as associate dean, director of the MBA Program and coordinator of Business Advanced Programs, which included offerings in Saudi Arabia, the Panama Canal Zone, Norway and Washington, D.C., among other locations. Additionally, at different times, he served as director of Executive Programs, director of the CBA Certificate Program in Management, director of the OU/OSU Middle Management Program, and senior director of the Center for Healthcare Business. He also served for many years as director of the Marketing and Supply Chain Management Division, one year as director of the Division of Management, and one year as interim director of the Business Ph.D. Program. Moreover, he served twice on OU's NCAA Certification Steering Committee and twice on OU's NCAA Certification Fiscal Integrity Committee, serving as chair each time.

To attest to his excellence in higher education, Dr. Kasulis was heavily involved with the Graduate Management Admission Council, the owner and provider of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), the standardized test for admission to graduate school in business. He served that organization as trustee, vice-chair and chair, as well as a member of the Board of Trustee Standards Committee, Membership and Governance Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and Committee on Trusteeship. He also served and chaired the Research and Test Development Committee at the time of the Educational Testing Service's inclusion of the first writing sample section and the introduction of the first online version of the GMAT, expanding its testing capabilities. In addition, Dr. Kasulis served on a joint task force of the Association of Doctoral Directors of Programs in Business/Graduate Management Admission Council, the Advisory Committee of the AACSB/GMAC National Doctoral Fellowship Program, and the AACSB/GMAC National Advisory Panel on Graduate Management Education Innovation.

Among his civic involvements, Dr. Kasulis has been involved with the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society, the Norman Optimist Foundation as vice president and president and the Norman Optimist Club as treasurer and president. He has also been an advisory board member of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and a board member and assistant treasurer of the University of Oklahoma Federal Credit Union. Notably, he was also a member of the Selection Committee for the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame.

Dr. Kasulis' interests extend beyond college sports, particularly basketball and baseball, where he helped organize and coach recreational kids leagues through the Norman Optimist Club. In addition, he played and coached recreational adult basketball and softball. A man close to his faith, he has been involved in numerous church activities locally, ranging from stewardship chair, holy orders chair and vestry member to senior warden.

In accounting for his success, Dr. Kasulis credits his advanced education and natural ability to work with other professionals and students. He is especially gratified by the opportunities to assimilate individuals from various fields to accomplish common goals. Despite his retirement, Dr. Kasulis remains involved in his field and has been considering writing a textbook that will integrate multiple marketing areas to equip readers with a solid foundation on the fundamentals of the field. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball and spending time with his family, which includes his four children and 12 grandchildren.
