During her tenure of fifteen years at the facility, she had the opportunity to become involved with the development of 6 primary care clinics in Memphis, which were established to meet the needs of the growing underserved population. The Regional Medical Center also formed an urgent care clinic to decrease the non-emergent care volume in the emergency room. Additionally, the Center in coordination with the Health Department managed four neighborhood clinics to ensure coordinated primary care in multiple areas of the city.
During an earlier stage of her career, Ms. Scott worked for Opturo, which is a subsidiary of United Healthcare. Gaining extensive experience with the elder population in the home. She was primarily responsible for "House Calls" providing annual visits and assessments as well as communicating with insurers and primary care providers. Her role also required a significant amount of traveling, which Ms. Scott enjoyed.
Looking toward to the future, Ms. Scott aims to continue working with caregivers, families and patients with dementia, a disease that results in the loss of cognitive functioning and significantly interferes with a patient's daily life. Ms. Scott notably attributes much of her success to her grandmother for serving as a positive role model while she was coming of age.
To prepare for her career in health care, Ms. Scott earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing at the College of the Virgin Islands now University of the Virgin Islands, Bachelor's degree in Nursing at East Carolina University, Master of Health Administration from St Louis University, followed by a Master's in Nursing from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences. Ms. Scott is a certified registered nurse and nurse practitioner.
