During Katrina, Ms. Dolese spent 121 hours at a New Orleans hospital before being evacuated from the roof by an Army Blackhawk.
SLIDELL, LA, February 09, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Melanie Ann Dolese, MSN, ACNP, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in healthcare, Ms. Dolese has earned the distinction as a NP at Highland Community Hospital for Keystone Healthcare. In this role, she works solo at night, as a hospitalist, overseeing the care of medical/surgical, telemetry and ICU patients. She also accepts new admissions from the ER and out-lying hospitals.
Ms. Dolese became a RN at the age of 19 and a NP at the age of 29. In 2001, she was the first NP hired at Medial Oncology Group in Gulfport, MS and the 2nd NP in the state allowed by the board of nursing to oversee chemotherapy without a physician present. In 2005, she was the only volunteer provider for Manna Clinic which provides care to the indigent. Before Katrina, she saw patients one evening per week. After Katrina, through the assistance of a grant, she was then paid to see patients 3 days per week. During Katrina, Ms. Dolese spent 121 hours at a New Orleans hospital before being evacuated from the roof by an Army Blackhawk. That experience changed her practice forever.
In 2006, Ms. Dolese was the first NP to work in the ER at Crosby Hospital (now known as Highland Community Hospital). In 2009, she was the first NP to work in hospital medicine at Northshore Regional Medical Center and in 2014 was the first NP to work solo at night throughout the entire Ochsner hospital system.
In addition to working as a NP, she also served as an adjunct faculty member for Charity school of nursing, teaching ICU and ER clinicals from 2011-2013.
In 2016, Melanie was recommended by the director of NP programs at LSU Health Sciences Center to an attorney out of Georgia and she subsequently served as an expert witness.
Within the coming years, Ms. Dolese hopes to stay in hospital medicine, learning procedures to augment her role. She may also pursue a doctorate degree, enabling her to further rise in her career. Accounting to her success thus far, she credits her passion for learning, applying "Mississippi yard dog" common sense, quickly admitting those things she doesn't know and truly caring for people.
