Leveraging more than five decades of excellence in engineering and business management, Mr. Fulghum has earned distinction as the vice president of MacKay and Company. From 1993 until his retirement in 2017, he focused his efforts on market research and management consulting for clients in the commercial trucking, construction and agricultural equipment industries in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Europe. Now that he consults for his private practice, he is currently working with a homeowners' association to ensure the Illinois Tollway Authority properly implements its plans for adding lanes to the interstate highway, which could put homes at risk for flooding when the Tollway modifies the storm water retention system.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Fulghum began his career as an engineer with Navistar International Corp. in 1969 and was promoted to controller for a strategic business unit in 1978. He continued his career with Navistar International Corp. as manager for agricultural tractors in 1981, further earning several promotions over the years for his stellar work. He ultimately served as director of strategic planning for the company in 1989 until retiring from the role in 1993.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Fulghum developed and registered several patents in his field. He was a valued member of the engineering subcommittee of the American National Standards Institute and participated in the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and Safety Standards Development for the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Also dedicated to civil advocacy, he served as a dedicated member of the local Zoning Board of Appeals for the Village of Indian Head Park. Additionally, he has been a private practice consultant providing tax planning, tax filing, accounting, and long-term business planning services.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Fulghum earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State University in 1969 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1974. He completed the Program for Management Development in business from Harvard Business School in 1981. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified public accountant and registered professional engineer for the State of Illinois.
Within the coming years, Mr. Fulghum intends to assist a client with their plan to expand to second and third locations in different areas of Chicago. He will continue his consulting work with various other clients to keep himself engaged in the work he is passionate about, fueled by his natural intellectual curiosity.
