Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in educational leadership, Dr. Petit has earned distinction as a leader of Harlem Children's Zone's Promise Academy. In this capacity, he is the superintendent of schools and early childhood programs. Since 2014, he has focused his efforts on providing support to the principals to ensure the students are engaged with their studies and on a meaningful pathway to college. He provides feedback during data analyses to determine what elements of the program are working, and training to any teachers or administrators who are struggling. He also engages in the onboarding of, and training and development of new staff members. In this capacity, Dr. Petit serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team of Harlem Children's Zone. Prior to his current role, Dr. Petit began his career as a math teacher for Harlem Children's Zone Promise Academy in 2005 and was promoted to assistant principal in 2009. He then became the principal for the school in 2011.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Dr. Petit is a valued member of the School Superintendents Association, the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He has also served as a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, owning to his experience in mathematics instruction. Also a dedicated civil advocate, he is a regular donor to The Nyack Center and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as well as the local homeless shelter, police and fire departments.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Petit earned an associate's degree in computer systems management and a bachelor's degree from the University of Albany. He then earned a Master of Education in educational leadership and administration from the University of Albany in 2003. He subsequently gained a Doctorate of Education in executive leadership from St. John Fisher University in 2013.
Within the coming years, Dr. Petit intends to continue his work in recruiting, training, retaining and developing strong educators who can help accomplish his school's mission. His primary goal is to serve the youth in central Harlem, assisting them with the transition to college or university so they may fulfill their potential as productive citizens in society.
