Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Vela's credit include an internship at the New Orleans Veterans Administration Hospital between 2003 and 2004, credentials as a licensed professional counselor/supervisor through the Texas Department of State Health Services in 2011, and credentials as a certified employee assistance professional through the Employee Assistance Professionals Association in 2012.
Dr. Vela is a professional member of the Texas Counseling Association and the Employee Assistance Professionals Association. She was also notably inducted into Chi Omega.
