Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in automobile leasing, Mr. Downes has earned distinction as the president of Performance Concepts. Since 1984, he has focused his efforts on developing sales training programs, as well as creating and marketing multimedia and syndicated advertising campaigns throughout the United States, Canada and Australia for the banking and automobile industries.
He began his career as a partner in DS&O Advertising Agency, went on to become president of Dover American Corporation, National Syndications, then Lease-One Corporation for 10 years starting in 1976.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Mr. Downes is an accomplished author of 15 published books, including six novels in mystery and historical fiction. He has also written about the history of the Native Americans in the Revolutionary War, among other topics. He is best known for his books "How To Be Irresistible Through the Power of Persuasion," published by Enterprise Pub in 1982, and "Orphans Song," which published in 2006. His mystery thriller "A Few Deadly Friends" was published in 1999 and was picked up as a screenplay by a producer affiliated with Orion Studios in California. He's been featured for his writing skills on several talk shows as well as Westinghouse Stations. His most recent book, "Rebel With a Cause," published in 2023, is a biography of a well-known architect in Washington.
Mr. Downes also lends his expertise as a guest speaker for conventions and meetings for the National Automobile Dealers Association, having spent a great deal of his career creating a program that started out at Manufacturers Hanover Corporation in New York and First Pennsylvania Bank in Philadelphia that provided dealerships nationally to lease cars and sell them to banks without recourse.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Downes completed coursework in advertising at Whitworth University. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts in marketing and journalism from Long Beach State University in 1962.
