Backed by years of professional expertise, Dr. Walker presently serves as an emeritus professor at Western Illinois University, where he served as an English professor from 1986 until 2005. During that time, he also worked as the chair of the Department of English & Journalism. Over the years, he gained valuable expertise in education with the University of Houston, Victoria as chair of the division of arts and sciences, dean of arts and sciences, and assistant and associate professor of English. Similarly, Dr. Walker honed his skills through the University of Maryland and Barber-Scotia College.
Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Walker has contributed to a plethora of publications, including "The Problem of Plot in the Modernist Text: The Example of Faulkner," "The Pattern of Faustian Despair: Marlowe's Hero and Under the Volcano" and "English Literary Adventurers in Labyrinthine Mexico." Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Walker aligns himself with the National Council of Teachers of English, the Modern Language Association, the Illinois Philological Association, and the D.H. Lawrence Society of America. Likewise, he has contributed to his community through LIFE, Learning Is Forever, as an active member of the curriculum committee and instructor.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Walker earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of the Redlands. Subsequently, he received a master's degree in English language and literature from the University of California, Los Angeles and a PhD in English language and literature from the University of Maryland, College Park. In recognition of his outstanding body of work, Dr. Walker has been honored many times, earning the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Seminar Award from the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Colorado, the Fulbright-Hays Lectureship in American Literature through Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, and the University of Houston-Victoria Faculty Research Initiation Grant.
