Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in commercial bank lending, Mr. Greenberg has earned distinction as a private banker with his own company, Stuart Greenberg, Inc. Since 1986, he has focused his efforts on providing expert witness testimony on commercial lending and banking practices. As an expert witness in lender liability lawsuits, he has qualified and testified as an expert on commercial lending and banking services in state and federal district courts, including the United States Bankruptcy Court. His testimony has assisted various clients, including law firms, commercial banks, stock brokerage firms and commercial borrowers. He has participated in more than 120 cases involving lender liability, loan structure, banking regulation issues and other issues related to bank lending practice.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Greenberg served honorably in the United States Coast Guard. Following his military service, he began his career as a lecturer at the University of Maryland University College in Tokyo, Japan in 1970 and joined a credit training program at Chase Manhattan Bank in 1972. Following this time, he was the credit analysis supervisor for the international division of Crocker National Bank in 1974 until becoming an assistant cashier and assistant vice president for the National Bank of Washington in 1975. He was promoted to the assistant vice president and vice president of corporate lending in 1976, rising further within the company until eventually becoming the manager of the loan workout department in 1983.
Mr. Greenberg continued his career as a senior vice president and manager of the Baltimore loan production office and vice president and general manager of the NBW International Banking Corporation prior to starting his own consulting service, Stuart Greenberg, Inc. He also served as a senior advisor for Alvarez and Marsal from 2015 until 2017. He has been a member of the Risk Management Association and has had affiliations with the Chesapeake Chapter Risk Management Association.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Greenberg has contributed a wealth of written works to the field, including co-authoring "Lender Liability Issues" with the Chesapeake Chapter of RMA and the Turnaround Management Association in 2002 and "How To Avoid and Recover Troubled Loans in Our Troubled Times" in 2002. He also co-authored "Getting in the Business, Running the Business and Getting Out of the Business: Potential Quicksand for a Lender," which he presented at the 2003 Risk Management Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, and wrote "Successful Claims and Defenses to Lender Liability" for the New York City Bar Association's City Bar Center for Continuing Legal Education in 2010.
Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, Mr. Greenberg volunteered as a mentor for Emerging Technology Centers, providing banking and financial management guidance. He has also lent his expertise to the Children's Guild, Baltimore Reads, Inc. and the University of Maryland Baltimore County Incubator Program advisory committee. In recognition of his skills, he was appointed by the Governor to the State of Maryland Trade Policy Council in 1985 and served in that position for five years. Further, Mr. Greenberg was a member of the leadership program of the Greater Baltimore community, class of 1985.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Greenberg earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Alabama in 1966. He then attained a Master of Arts in international affairs from George Washington University in 1968. Having accomplished a great deal with his private banking practice, he intends to continue his stellar work.
