Carmen Miranda Honored as a Distinguished Teacher

    CAGUAS, PUERTO RICO, March 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Carmen Miranda has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Miranda recalls she has been passionate about teaching since her youth. As a child, she pretended to teach her dolls by placing them on her bed and simulating an educational lesson. Today, she gets to put her childhood dream into practice, having offered her expertise to Universidad Ana G. Méndez, also known as Ana G. Méndez University, in San Juan, Puerto Rico for nearly 25 years.

Dr. Miranda joined Ana G. Méndez University in 2008 as an assistant professor and has taught various writing courses to students at all college levels. In addition, she has also been active at the university's writing center, where she supports both the department and students in need of additional assistance. She is also involved with the university organization that works with the community in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now skilled in teaching virtually, she most enjoys one-on-one collaboration in the classroom, believing it makes for the full learning experience.

Before she transitioned into academia, Dr. Miranda dedicated more than three decades of teaching to the public school system, including grade school, middle school and high school. Finding great success early in her career, she was honored as Teacher of the Year by the public school system. Noting this accolade as a particular highlight, she finds it most rewarding to see her past students excelling in their professional endeavors today. In the instances when they thank her for contributing to their growth and success, she cannot fathom a more fulfilling profession and life.

In order to remain abreast of changes and developments to her industry, Dr. Miranda maintains membership with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) International and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Puerto Rico. Since 2020, she has served as president of the Eastern Chapter of TESOL Puerto Rico. Additionally, Dr. Miranda has been featured in various articles and is the author of the dissertation, "Generation Z: Rethinking, Teaching and Learning," published in TESOLgram.

To prepare for her career in education, Dr. Miranda earned a bachelor's degree in elementary and secondary education from Universidad de Puerto Rico and a master's degree in English as a second language from Universidad Ana G. Mendez. Despite being settled into her career, she realized she wanted to continue working and bring herself to the next level, professionally. With this in mind, Dr. Miranda attained a Doctorate in curriculum instruction from Capella University at the age of 62, which was something she never imagined she could do and is grateful to have achieved.

Looking ahead, Dr. Miranda hopes to build upon her skills in educational leadership. Likewise, she also hopes to take short courses where she can continue developing professionally. The doting mother of three children, Francisco, Frances and Oscar, whom she recounts as the most significant accomplishments in her life, she plans to dedicate more time to family and travel upon easing into her well-deserved retirement.
