HOUSTON, TX, March 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Raymond D. Roberson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Drawing on over five decades of expertise in the field of academia, Mr. Roberson specialized in American history education. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he built a prolific career as an educator at the Houston Independent School District, where he served from 1981 to 2006. In this capacity, he was responsible for chairing the social studies department and teaching government, economics, geography, world and American history subjects. He initially began his vocation in the Bluffton Harrison School District, where he taught elementary, middle and high school social studies. In 1973, he wrote his first major work, Joseph Smith in Historical Perspective (non-published thesis). In 2020, Mr. Roberson published the first volume of "Presidential Maxims: Excellence in Leadership." Leadership traits are identified herein for the first 19 presidents with birthdays from January to June chronologically, their life experiences summarized with brevity to show learned behaviors that can foster a successful life, along with quotations that reflect their personal personalities.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Roberson pursued an education at Huntington College, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in American history. He continued his academic efforts at Ball State University, earning a Master of Arts. As a commitment to his field, he has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the National Council for the Social Studies and various regional and state teachers' associations. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Roberson has contributed to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Houston Tennis Association.
Well regarded for his contributions to the field, Mr. Roberson has received multiple awards, including the Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers by the College of Education at the University of Texas in Austin in 1989, and has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2002, 2005 and 2006. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud to have been nominated and recognized for his excellence in teaching by prominent organizations. Mr. Roberson's drive to pursue his vocational path derived from his high school experience with Ms. Catherine Marshall and Dr. Peter Marshall, who became the pastor of the New York Presbyterian Church and later the chaplain of the United States Senate, thereby inspiring him to be the first in his family to attend college and deviate from his original profession of ministry service.
As he was approaching retirement, he had the "Vision" that he wanted to leave for posterity a legacy that he could be remembered by, and something that could be beneficial to mankind.
His vision began to focus on the presidential character that he had experienced, since, he became aware of the political world.
As a delegate to the Men's American Legion State's Convention in 1959, for which he was chosen as a senior in high school, this became the motivation for a lifelong study of the presidents of the United States.
It was further stimulated as he visited the first ever memorial to the presidents when he visited the tomb of Warren G. Harding in Marion, OH.
At that visit, he resolved that we can learn from each of our presidents regardless of the politics of the man or the party.
After high school, his first full biography was that of JFK's father, Joseph P. Kennedy. He was stuck with the politics of his influence from FDR's administration.
His research would begin after retirement and it would be stimulated by the move to Texas where he could make semi-annual visits to the "granddaddy of all the presidential libraries," LBJ's in Austin, TX.
Now, with visits to Austin and then visits to Indianapolis, the "only Hoosier President" it would expand to Atlanta, then to the other 12 that had been built in his own lifetime.
The visit to Truman's Library in 2005, had a personal touch. In November of that year, he lost his first born son, Major Ryan N. Roberson, of the United States Army. He was at the General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. This event spurred the motivation to dedicate his book to Major Roberson and to include him as a worthy leader among his peers and recognize his contribution to our society because of his services.
Hence the book, "Presidential Maxims: Excellence in Leadership: was being written. The project was divided into entries, the first Volume 1, the Presidents born from January to June, and the second, born July to December.
Volume 1 was published in March 2019 and Volume 2 projected in April 2023.
Harry S. Truman's maxim: "Make no little plans, make the biggest one you can think of and spend the rest of your life carrying it out," was a great booster to getting this project to market.
