Leveraging decades of practice experience in music and music education, Ms. Meagor has been a pianist at the Alameda Christian Reformed Church in Alameda, California, since 2020, a congregation that has existed in the San Francisco Bay area for approximately 100 years. Besides playing piano for weekly worship services, Ms. Meagor plays for special occasions, weddings, and funerals, and serves as accompanist for solos and ensembles when needed. Over the years she has directed choir cantatas for Easter and Christmas celebrations.
Before assuming her current position, Ms. Meagor was the music director, organist, pianist, and choir and handbell director at Castro Valley United Methodist Church in Castro Valley, California, from 1994 to 2020. She spent more than five years as an organist at Richmond's First Baptist Church in Richmond, California, and several additional years as an organist and choir leader at the American Baptist Church in Moraga, California.
Aside from her extensive background in church music, Ms. Meagor devoted approximately 10 years of her career as an elementary school teacher and a high school English teacher. She taught in public schools in South Dakota, Massachusetts, and California. She also spent more than five years as the assistant to the president at her alma mater, the American Baptist Seminary of the West (now Berkeley School of Theology), in Berkeley, California. Furthermore, Ms. Meagor was affiliated with the San Francisco Girl Scouts of America council for over a decade as the assistant development director in charge of writing and submitting grant proposals and securing funding to support the nonprofit organization.
Ms. Meagor discovered and became passionate about church music while coming of age as the daughter of a pastor. She also became inspired to learn how to play the piano from her mother. Grateful to be able to offer her services to the church community for so many years, Ms. Meagor aims to remain active with the Alameda Christian Reformed Church for at least another five years.
Ms. Meagor pursued an education at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, receiving a bachelor's degree in English and music in 1960, followed by a public school teacher certification. She also secured a Master of Theology at the Berkeley School of Theology in 1992 with the assistance of a Jessie Day Drexler Scholarship.
For her years of devotion to music, Ms. Meagor was honored to receive an Appreciation Award for Outstanding Leadership in Ministry and Music in 2002. She also received a Special Appreciation Award in 2008.
