GILBERT, AZ, March 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Courtney M. Dennis, MS, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Leveraging more than a decade of excellence in mental health counseling, Ms. Dennis has earned distinction as a counselor and director of clinical programming for Ryse Therapy and Consulting. Since 2022, she has focused her efforts on working with the clients in their residence program, as well as assisting other agencies with building programs and setting up sessions for some of their clients who have high mental health acuity as needed. She collaborates with coworkers and her clinical director to create an evidence- and progress-based program, rather than a time-based one, allowing their clients to learn in their specific methods without being constrained by a specific timeline. Additionally, she has been a consultant, chief executive officer and life coach for The Donald P Dennis Foundation Inc. since 2020, seeking out and identifying resources for community members and helping them with coordinating care with other agencies.
Prior to starting her private career, Ms. Dennis served as a member of the Presidential Honor Guard, for the US Navy, a supply petty officer, a legal secretary in 1994 until retiring from the role in 1999. During her service, she created a training program for the division she was in while stationed at BUPERS (Bureau of Naval Personnel) to help train new staff that came in to incorporate their learning capacity rather than having them participate in redundant programs. In recognition of her stellar service in this capacity, she was honored with six military medals, including a Commendation Letter and a Navy Achievement Medal.
Following her military service, Ms. Dennis began her career as an adult case manager in the recovery and release program of Hiwassee Mental Health Center in 2008, working with men and women that were being released from jail to assist in identifying resources such as housing and employment. She was a probation and parole officer for the Tennessee State Department of Corrections in 2012, she became a coordinator for the Tennessee State Department of Education's Tennessee Early Intervention System in 2013 and served as the facility director of Omni Visions in 2014 for a girls residential program. Later that year, she was a master's level behavioral sciences counselor for Corizon Health Care until starting a role as a therapist with Oasis Behavioral Health in 2015 in Arizona. She subsequently was an adjunct instructor for Brown Mackie College and treatment counselor for the Core Civic Red Rock Correctional Center in 2016, joining A-Making Changes as a clinician in 2017. During this time, she also served as a therapist with Serenity Care Centers until 2018 and with Helping Hands Health Services until 2022. Ms. Dennis also volunteered with the Maricopa County jails in teaching classes to the females who were scheduled to be released within a 120 day period. These classes were designed to assist the clients in beginning to learn more about healthy habits, healthy coping skills and effective communication prior to release.
Outside of her primary career efforts, Ms. Dennis lends her expertise as a member of the State of Arizona Behavioral Health community, she is a member of the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors and the American Counseling Association. Also dedicated to civil advocacy, she spent 12 years working as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America and volunteers in charitable and community events through her position with Ryse Therapy and Consulting.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Dennis earned a paralegal diploma from the Blackstone Career Institute in 2005 and an Associate of Applied Science in paralegal studies from Purdue University Global in 2006. She then attained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in criminal justice from the same institution in 2007, gaining another Master of Science in general psychology from Purdue University Global in 2013. Additionally, she has been a notary public since 2020.
Within the coming years, Ms. Dennis intends to complete a third master's degree in mental health counseling and forensic psychology, then will pursue a PhD in forensic psychology. She plans to continue building and growing her non-profit agency nationwide as well as helping other agencies establish themselves in underserved areas. Ms. Dennis is constantly striving to learn more and change to better serve as a counseling professional and leader within her community.
