Drawing on years of expertise in admiralty and maritime litigation, arbitration and insurance defense and coverage, Mr. Stern presently excels as a fellow with the Forum for International Conciliation and Arbitration and as an editorial board member for the International Journal of the Rule of Law. Since joining the firm in 2004, he has been involved in litigation and arbitration proceedings nationwide and before courts in numerous countries, including England, France, Greece, Colombia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
During the early stages of his career, Mr. Stern shared his expertise in the field to others as an adjunct professor in the International Trade and Marketing Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology, through which he taught international business law and import/export regulations. Likewise, he worked as an associate with Nourse & Bowles between 1995 and 2002. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Stern aligns himself with the Maritime Law Association.
Outside of his work, Mr. Stern contributes to his community through the Historic Preservation Commission and the Planning Board of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Before embarking on his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania. Subsequently, he received a JD cum laude from Duke University's School of Law and became certified to practice before the Courts of New York and New Jersey, the U.S. District Court for the Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of New York, the Court of International Trade, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits. The cornerstone of his success lay in his ability to quickly grasp issues relevant to a particular dispute and determine an efficient strategy to reach a successful outcome for his clients. In the coming years, Mr. Stern aims to parlay his experience by pursuing the more quasi-judicial side of arbitrating and mediating disputes.
