In addition to his primary vocation, David has found much success in parlaying his business acumen into philanthropy, as the co-founder of Bethania Kids, a nonprofit ministry for orphaned, abandoned and disabled children in India. In this capacity, the organization provides essential resources and education to disadvantaged, impoverished or abandoned children, along with children who have such disabilities as cerebral palsy, prenatal-related illnesses, deafness and blindness. David helped to develop this organization over 30 years, from one child with polio, to over 1,000 children in multiple homes and centers.
Mr. Granner initially began his professional journey serving as an account representative at TSM Financial Group from 1986 until 1991. Prior to embarking on his vocational path, Mr. Granner pursued an education at the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business, where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1986. He continued his academic efforts at Eastern Michigan University, earning a Master of Business Administration in 1994. As a commitment to his field, Mr. Granner has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the Million Dollar Round Table and the Certified Financial Planner Board.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Granner contributes regularly to YouthWorks-Detroit, Habitat for Humanity International and Mercy International, as well as numerous other nonprofits. He is actively involved in conservation efforts in the Palani Hills of South India, where he lived as a child, and still maintains a home. He also serves in an advisory capacity for several nonprofit organizations. His drive to be a resource to nonprofit organizations arose from his lifelong membership with the Lutheran church, his upbringing in India and his exposure to poverty at an early age. Mr. Granner speaks regularly at financial planning conferences about how to run a successful financial planning practice and how to make a transition from 'success to significance' by connecting that business to programs and organizations that will make the world a more beautiful place.
On the personal side, David is married to his very supportive wife, Susie, and has three adult children. David loves playing the piano and has performed as an adult in numerous recitals. He especially loves the music of Chopin. David has composed many pieces of music for small oratorio, both sacred and secular. He is an avid student of Argentine Tango and participates in milongas (formal dances) with his wife. He loves to ride horses, keeping two on his property in Ann Arbor. Feeding the horses every day has become a part of his meditation practice and is truly life-giving. He advocates staying close to the soil—to the tactile in life. He especially emphasizes maintaining many warm and loving friendships.
