HENDERSON, NV, March 13, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Warren Glenn Hioki has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in computer, engineering, and telecommunications technologies, Dr. Hioki has earned distinction as Professor Emeritus for the College of Southern Nevada's School of Advanced and Applied Technologies. Prior to his current role, he began his career in 1975 with Electomagnetic Systems Laboratories (ESL) Inc., a research and development firm located in Sunnyvale, CA. From 1975 to 1981, Dr. Hioki worked for ESL as a design engineer, project engineer, and project manager. Following this period, he served from 1981 to 1994 as a faculty member for the Electronics and Computer Technology Department at San Jose City College. He developed California's first two-year degree in Telecommunications. He also served as a consultant for ESL and IBM Storage Systems Division.
From 1994 to 2015, Dr. Hioki continued his career at the College of Southern Nevada as a faculty member, Program Director, Associate Dean for the School of Advanced and Applied Technologies, Chief Campus Administrator, and Executive Director of Technical Programs and High School Partnerships. While heading up the College's Computer, Engineering, and Telecommunications Technology programs, Dr. Hioki spearheaded one of the nation's largest Cisco Networking Academies and Telecommunications program. This culminated in the Nevada State Legislature funding a $25 Million Telecommunications building on its Cheyenne campus. Dr. Hioki participated in its architectural design and program logistics.
During the interim, Dr. Hioki served as a Principal Investigator for the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Nevada statewide grant in Information and Communications Technology (ICT). He also served as Director of Nevada State College's Bachelor of Applied Science programs. From 2009 to 2015, Dr. Hioki served as Co-Principle Investigator for the University of Massachusetts, Boston, a NSF National Center of Excellence in ICT. In 2015, Dr. Hioki retired and was conferred Professor Emeritus status.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Dr. Hioki has authored several contributions to the fields of telecommunications and education, including four editions of his text, "Telecommunications" and the accompanying "Solutions Manual," and "Telecommunications Lab Manual." His doctoral dissertation, entitled "Predisposition Factors of Career and Technical Education Transfer Students: A Hermeneutic Phenomenology Study" was published for the UMI Company in 2010 and was recognized as Dissertation of the Year by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Educational Leadership Department.
Also a dedicated civil advocate, Dr. Hioki was a President Obama appointee for the Board of Trustees of the Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation (CCFF) from 2011 until 2017. The CCFF aims to identify outstanding scientific accomplishments and recognize senior scientists, college and university professors, and high school and middle school teachers and their respective students for their work in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). He has played a key role in working with the College of Southern Nevada's Foundation, the Clark County School District, and Clark County School District's School Community Partnership Program. Likewise, he lent his expertise for several years as a judge for FIRST Robotics and the Las Vegas Women in Technology Awards.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Hioki was honored with the Nevada Technical Education Leadership Award from the American Technical Education Association and a Most Outstanding Faculty Award from the Community College of Southern Nevada, both in 1999. In 2004, on behalf of the College and the Lieutenant Governor of Nevada, he presented to the Ministry of Education in Beijing, China on the state of technology in Nevada. He is proud to have received the Educator of the Year Award from the Las Vegas Asian Chamber of Commerce in 2000 as well as the 2002 Cisco Systems Achievement Award from John Morgridge, Cisco Systems Chairman of the Board. In recognition of his stellar efforts in education, he was also presented with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year Award in 2002 and 2003, also earning a Technology Educator of the Year Award in 2006 and the Hall of Fame Award in 2011 from the Technology Business Alliance of Nevada. In addition to these accomplishments, he received the Reflection of Success Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Appreciation Award in 2013. He was later honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Association for Career & Technical Education in 2015.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Hioki earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from California Polytechnic State University in 1975. He then attained his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University in 1992. Following this accomplishment, he gained his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership in Higher Education Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2009. Well-qualified in his field, he is also a Cisco Certified Networking Associate.
Dr. Hioki retired in 2015 as Professor Emeritus and spends more time relaxing, enjoying his children and grandchildren, hiking, travel, and photography. Having completed four Camino de Santiago treks in Spain, Portugal, and France, he also plans to continue traveling and availing himself to other cultures, people, and landscapes.
