Mr. Mitchell has creatively developed programs and schools for emotionally challenged adolescents.
EAGLE, ID, March 15, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- L. J. Mitchell has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Mitchell has creatively developed programs and schools for emotionally challenged adolescents. Over 10,000 students have graduated from his residential programs. He is considered one of the pioneers of Adolescent Wilderness Therapy, having co-founded the SUWS Adolescent Program in 1982, one if not the first program of its kind for adolescents. It was a prototype that began an industry with similar programs springing up nationwide. He founded and directed the Alldredge Academy, a wilderness program which included an innovative "rite of passage" element called The Village. In 2007 he founded and directed the Greenbrier Academy for Girls, a college prep, therapeutic/academic high school. The Academy specializes in changing trauma induced, right brain negative beliefs that create symptoms like depression, anxiety, addiction, and attachment issues. Over 90% of Greenbrier Academy high school graduates have matriculated into colleges and universities.
As an expert in his field, Mr. Mitchell developed his skill sets through a series of professional trainings and experience. He earned a JD from the University of Idaho's College of Law and served four years as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Air Force. He litigated many cases involving psychological disorders and injuries. His interaction with forensic psychologists and psychiatrists stimulated his desire to find new, innovative treatment alternatives. After the Air Force and civilian law practice he received a Trainer's Trainer Certification in Neurolinguistics from Robert Dilts, NLP University. He also became certified in Brain Spotting, an intervention targeting trauma. Mr. Mitchell's story is set forth on Dr. Will White's Podcast, "Stories from the Field: Demystifying Wilderness Therapy."
Mr. Mitchell has presented at an annual meeting of the American Psychological Association (APA) and has coauthored peer reviewed articles in academic journals. He co-authored a chapter in an APA textbook, "Casebook for A Spiritual Strategy in Counseling and Psychotherapy" by Scott Richards and Allen Bergin. He authored the book "Decide Now: The Good Life or The Best Life" that highlights the importance of a person's perceived self-identity.
While his career has been filled with standout moments, Mr. Mitchell takes the most pride in pioneering new philosophies and practices to improve the emotional wellbeing of adolescents and their families. He recognizes that working with adolescents in "denial" is a difficult and emotionally draining endeavor, but the need has never been greater. He hopes that the quality of care for teenagers will continue to improve, and that the skill sets of providers will correspondingly keep pace with new and better therapeutic models.
