Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in geriatric psychiatry, Dr. Ramesh has earned distinction as the chairman of the department of psychiatry for the University of Maryland Capital Region Health. Since 2015, he has focused his efforts on administrative duties as Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, while teaching students and residents at the hospital. He also lends his expertise as a valued member of the American Psychiatric Association, the Montgomery County Medical Society, the Washington Psychiatric Society, the Maryland State Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.
Outside of his primary career efforts with the University of Maryland Capital Region Health, Dr. Ramesh has been the managing partner and regional director for Psychogeriatric Services Inc. since 2002. Additionally, he is an associate clinical professor for the Department of Psychiatry of Ross University, having taught there since 2015.
Dr. Ramesh began his career with a private practice in Chidambaram, India in 1994. Following this time, he was a research fellow with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in the Ophthalmology Department in 1996 and took a role as a consulting diagnostician for Johns Hopkins University in 2000. During this time, he also was a consulting psychiatrist for a nursing home with Lafferman and Associates, PA until becoming the medical director for the Adams Lodge Group Home and Little Lodge Group Home in 2001. While in this role, he served as an attending psychiatrist with Adventist Behavioral Health from 2001 until 2003 and with Montgomery General Hospital from 2002 until 2005. Additionally, while serving as an outpatient psychiatrist for Green Ridge Behavioral Health from 2002 to 2016, Dr. Ramesh continued his career as a Chairman for the Department of Psychiatry of Montgomery General Hospital in 2003.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Ramesh earned a Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine from Rajah Muthiah Medical College of Annamalai University in India in 1994. Following this accomplishment, he began his psychiatry residency with the Nassau County Medical Center of New York in 1997 and served as a psychiatry resident for the University of Maryland Sheppard Pratt Medical System from 1998 to 2001 and served as their Chief resident in the final year. He subsequently completed an ECT visiting fellowship with Duke University in 2003. Well-qualified in his field, he is certified by the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Ramesh won second place standing in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and attained first place honors in microbiology, community medicine and pharmacology from Annamalai University. He also received a Gold Medal Award for Best Outgoing Student of Men from the university. He has presented in numerous conferences and co-authored some publications.
In the coming years, Dr. Ramesh intends to become more involved in charity, scaling down his professional work to enable him to engage in pro bono cases outside of private practice.
