PALO ALTO, CA, March 17, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Koppitz, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in physics research, Dr. Koppitz has earned distinction as a physicist with the German International School of Silicon Valley. Since 2020, he has focused his efforts on giving lectures to students on physics, mathematics and astronomy. Additionally, he is a valued member of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Koppitz began his career as a software engineer in Germany in 1998 and was a research assistant for the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in 2000. He then became a research assistant for the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in 2004. The next year, he significantly contributed to creating the first successful numerical simulations of colliding black holes (scientifically called binary black hole mergers) which allowed subsequent groups to simulate those systems and calculate the emitted gravitational waves. This in turn facilitated the interpretation of the first measurements of such waves emitted by such mergers, which was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. In 2006, Dr. Koppitz returned to Germany to serve as a visualizer of scientific data for the Zuse Institute Berlin. In 2010, he became a mathematics and physics educator for the Lessing-Gymnasium in Germany in 2010.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Koppitz earned a Master of Science in physics from Technical-University in Berlin in German in 1996. He then attained a Doctor of Philosophy in numerical relativity from the University of Potsdam in 2004. Among his professional accomplishments, he is proud to have been named one of the Top Visualizers by NASA in 2010. Within the coming years, Dr. Koppitz intends to continue inspiring his students about the beauty of science.
