For the past 13 years, he has focused his efforts on leading the company's business development activities in aerospace and defense globally, including assessing products in the aerospace and defense industry, and identifying specific segments and customers who may be interested in applying such systems. Dr. McGuigan provides sales, business development, technology consulting, and market assessment services to both established and start-up guidance, navigation, and control inertial product companies, as well as to investment bankers and patent attorneys. Dr. McGuigan is an expert in MEMS, FOG, and RLG inertial technology, including integrated INS-GNSS systems. Clients include Sensonor AS, iXblue, Crossbow Technology, Moog, PolyXplore, SBG Systems and other major inertial product companies.
Prior to his current role, Dr. McGuigan worked in guidance, navigation, and control systems for Honeywell Aerospace and managed the development of the first all MEMS inertial measurement unit, the HG1930. Dr. McGuigan was also provided engineering management leadership at ATK for the first GPS JPO certified SAASM GPS receiver for US military applications. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Physics from the University of Kent in England in 1979. He then attained a Doctor of Philosophy in Nuclear Magnetism from the Physics Laboratory at the same institution in 1983. Well-qualified in his field, he is also a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Additionally, he is a valued member of the Institute of Physics and the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom.
In the next few years, Dr. McGuigan intends to transition to board advisory and membership roles while also serving as a mentor for young navigation professionals in an academic capacity, sharing his extensive knowledge and expertise to help prepare the next generation of leaders in the field. His eldest daughter, Ashley Anne McGuigan, holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Botany, and his youngest daughter, Jenna Leigh McGuigan, holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics and is completing her MBA in Aviation and International Business.
