Prior to his retirement in 2015, he built a prolific career as an operations supervisor at The Port Authority of New York (NY) and New Jersey (NJ). In this capacity, Mr. Adams was responsible for managing the taxicab, parking lot, customer service, bus and ground transportation, AirTrain and terminal operations at John F. Kennedy (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airports.
Mr. Adams initially began his career serving as a records manager and administrator for the aviation technical services of One World Trade Center at The Port Authority of NY and NJ between 1979 and 1992. Following this post, he garnered expertise as a property representative of commercial and business development for The Port Authority JFK International Airport from 1997 to 1999. In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Adams contributed to digitizing his local library and volunteered as a history and a reading tutor.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Adams pursued an education attending Cornell University (1973-1975) and Excelsior University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts in 1984, followed by a Master of Public Administration from Long Island University Brooklyn in 1990 where he graduated with distinction. He continued his academic efforts at Pratt Institute, earning a Master of Library and Information Sciences in 1998 and was awarded professional librarian licenses in New York and New Jersey. As a commitment to his field, he has been certified (CM 2002) and (ACE-Security) by the American Association of Airport Executives and as an enterprise content management practitioner via the Association for Information and Image Management. Additionally, he was active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Society of Public Administration. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Adams serves as a counselor for individuals with mental health problems and addiction.
Well-regarded for his contributions to the field, Mr. Adams has received multiple awards, including the recognition of excellence from Praxis in 2011. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud of his operational achievements and responsibilities as a member of the American Association of Airport Executives. Reflecting on a long career, he attributes much of his success to his dedication and personal perspective of the public administration specialty. Looking toward the future, Mr. Adams aspires to pursue consulting work, and hopes to engage in more community outreach and volunteering.
