Hired as a Lighting Designer, he was promoted to his present position of Production Manager and Technical Director in 2019. In the industry since 2005, Mr. Bender first worked for Universal Orlando as a Lighting Technician/Programmer. He subsequently served in a multitude of other roles over the next decade, including as the Assistant Lighting Director for The Old Globe and in various leading roles for PSAV. During his career, Mr. Bender notably served as the moving light programmer with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opening team in 2010 while working for Universal Orlando, and in 2022 had the chance to serve as the festival Lighting Director for the Punk in Drublic Music Festival in Ventura, and the Punk in the Park Music Festival in Orange County. Among his current projects, Mr. Bender is now in his fourth year designing and programming the lighting for the La Jolla Playhouse Gala.
Attributing his success in the field to his attention to detail and ability to remain calm under pressure, Mr. Bender also notes his empathetic and supportive nature, which has enabled him to get candid insight from his colleagues and coworkers and enact meaningful change. Looking toward the future, Mr. Bender aims to continue on his path in securing technical director roles.
Giving back to his community, Mr. Bender has been a volunteer lighting designer for Flood Church since 2015. He previously served as a light board operator on behalf of the Daybreak Community Church between 2012 and 2016. Mr. Bender and his wife also volunteer for several dog rescue organizations.
Well-qualified in his field, Mr. Bender studied at Valencia College, earning an Associate of Science in Theatre Technology.
