She knew at 17 that she was meant to use her experiences to help others. Following an early-in-life addiction to alcohol and drugs, Ms. Johansen, sober since 1987, spent the first twelve years of her career as an addiction specialist and directed both outpatient and inpatient treatment programs. She then made a bold creative pivot and opened two tattoo studios, reflecting her love for the art and culture of tattoos. She was honored to support the unique personal transformation that only happens in a tattoo shop. Those years as a small business owner were weird and wonderful and fueled tremendous professional growth. Then, from 2005 to 2021, she served as a healthcare administrator and executive vice president at Planned Parenthood, supporting a mission of sexual health and wellness for all.
Before embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Johansen attended Pacific Lutheran University, where she graduated cum laude in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and a minor in psychology. She continued her academic efforts at Western Governors University, earning a Master of Business Administration in 2017. As a commitment to her field, Ms. Johansen has been certified as a chemical dependency and relapse prevention specialist.
Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Johansen is most proud of her writing and vocation as host of the GTO-Freedom for Humans radio show. It enables her to answer her calling and impact the lives of others by shining a light on self-hate-driven patterns that create suffering. As a survivor of HPV-related cancer, she appreciates the opportunity to use her platform to raise awareness, encourage prevention and support those affected. Reflecting on her career, she attributes her success to her honesty, vulnerability, tenacity, and courage to walk through fear. Looking toward the future, Ms. Johansen is writing a practical guide to self-love and a memoir of her personal experiences to help and support more humans in finding freedom, purpose, and happiness.
Ms. Johansen lives between the Mediterranean island of Malta and the beautiful Oregon Coast. She spends time with her family, practicing mindfulness and self-love, doing yoga, taking hilly walks, watching her favorite films, listening to Jimi Hendrix, eating free from grains and sugars, and learning to speak Turkish.
