Additionally, he is the owner of his firm, The Haystack Insurance Agency, which he established in 1997 to help people with all types of risks. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified life underwriter training council fellow.
Before starting his private career, Mr. Smith served honorably as a nuclear, biological and chemical warfare specialist for the United States Army from 1981 until 1985. Following his service, he went into his family's trade in the construction business until joining the insurance industry.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Smith began his career as an insurance agent with Kansas Farm Bureau Insurance in 1991 and was promoted to a manager there in 1995. Following this time, he served as a district sales coordinator for AFLAC in 2001 until becoming a sales manager for ADM Crop Risk Services in 2011. Also dedicated to civil advocacy, he lends his expertise to the American Boer Goat Association. Among his professional accomplishments, he is proud to have been admitted to the Million Dollar Club and received a Rookie of the Year award from the Kansas Farm Bureau.
Within the coming years, Mr. Smith intends to leave the new venture MFA Crop Insurance has taken in a solid financial position where it is able to continue functioning successfully without his direct involvement. He is working on training people to succeed him, having learned from stellar mentors himself when he was developing his career, passing on his knowledge to the next generation.
