She also accepts freelance editing projects and maintains a book review blog, Briar Patch Books, on her website lindabrinson.com, which is dedicated to those who love reading and discussing books, and to authors and publishers who write and produce them.
Many of Ms. Brinson's articles have been published in the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, the Greensboro News & Record, the Winston-Salem Journal, Our State magazine and other publications. She has covered topics such as women's issues, the environment, the military and other relevant subjects. She served in a pioneering role as the first-ever female editorial page editor for the Winston-Salem Journal in Winston-Salem, NC. Among her favorite roles, Ms. Brinson aims to continue providing her expertise to the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot editorial pages. She also plans to continue reviewing books and is considering writing a memoir.
For several years, Ms. Brinson was an adjunct lecturer teaching a magazine writing and editing class at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also has been an adjunct lecturer at Wake Forest University and Lenoir-Rhyne University. Ms. Brinson served in various roles, many of them firsts for a female, at the Winston-Salem Journal and The Sentinel in Winston-Salem as well as The Sun in Baltimore, dating to 1973.
Active in her community and church, Ms. Brinson has served as a board member of the Salem College Center for Women Writers and for the Piedmont Land Conservancy in Greensboro, NC, as well as chairman of the Board of Deacons for First Baptist Church of Madison, NC.
Well qualified in her field, Ms. Brinson earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1969 from Wake Forest University, where she served as the editor of Old Gold and Black, the student newspaper. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 1987. During her career, she has been a prominent member of several industry organizations including the National Conference of Editorial Writers, the North Carolina Press Association and the North Carolina Press Women. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Ms. Brinson has garnered several awards in her field and was named to the Writers Hall of Fame of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, in 2018.
