As an experienced furniture maker, he also houses a workshop on-site through which he and his team of artisans conduct museum-quality restorations and upholstery services. Additionally, Mr. Mariani focuses on creating custom reproductions of antiques and modern pieces at the request of his customers.
Born in Italy, Mr. Mariani learned the intricacies of furniture making from his father and grandfather, who worked in the antiques and restoration business. Shortly after arriving in the U.S., he began working for several local shops before venturing into business in 1986. Becoming renowned for his expertise, Mr. Mariani's company has grown exponentially. He has a dedicated team of 20 artisans working for him to assist with production and restoration, some of whom have been with him for over 30 years.
Admittingly, Mr. Mariani is not an enthusiast of modern advances in his industry. Instead, he prefers relying on traditional ways of restoration. Having garnered the respect of many customers during his tenure in the industry for his work, he has earned many repeat customers, some of whom are high-end designers and collectors from all over the country.
Mr. Mariani has also become recognized for overseeing an apprenticeship program since 1983. Inspired to keep this hands-on profession alive, it is based on the 15th-century renaissance model. Mr. Mariani also recently began participating in the Fall Antique Show in San Francisco, exposing him to many individuals and antique dealers that attend each year. To give back to the community, he has donated several antiques to local foundations to sell and support their cause.
Attributing his long and successful career to his passion, hard work, and exceptional quality, Mr. Mariani also notes that every job is essential, no matter how small. Looking toward the future, he has a succession plan so that some of his employees can take over the restoration, production, and antique sales when he decides to retire. But for now, Mr. Mariani plans to continue managing his business for as long as possible.
