ANNAPOLIS, MD, March 30, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard B. Callahan has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in leadership for parks and recreation, Mr. Callahan has earned distinction as a valued member of the board for the Public Housing Commissioners. For the past 13 years, he has focused his efforts on helping to restore the athletic facilities, the swimming pool and community centers in the projects. He was able to successfully upgrade these facilities for the six public housing communities in Annapolis and continues to revisit the facilities to ensure they are operating properly.
Mr. Callahan served as Director of Recreation and Parks for the City of Annapolis, Maryland for thirty-three years. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Education from Washington College. Following his education, Mr. Callahan was invited to manage the Recreation Department by his best friend, Roger Moyer, who was the elected Mayor of Annapolis, Maryland, at the time. He handled the position with aplomb, earning a feature in Outlook By The Bay for his stellar work.
In the 1960's, an era of deep racial segregation, Mr. Callahan developed a warm and trustworthy reputation with the Black community. When Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated in 1968, and cities across the country were aflame in protest, Mr. Callahan assisted the esteemed Mayor Moyer in keeping the peace. The capital city of Annapolis, Maryland survived with no destruction, not even a broken window. Mr. Callahan later received the prestigious Peacemaker Award from the Martin Luther King, Jr., Committee of Anne Arundel County.
