He earned a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Florida Atlantic University in 1997 before pursuing a PhD in chemistry from the same institution, which he completed in 2007. Subsequently, Dr. Khan transitioned to accept a position with the team active in Dr. Edna Cukierman's laboratory at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, a post that continued 20 years of dedicated cancer study.
Notably, Dr. Khan is a prolific writer with many publications to his credit, including articles in peer-reviewed periodicals such as Journal of the American Chemical Society and BMC Cancer; additionally, he has contributed to the celebrated textbook series titled "Methods of Molecular Biology" and has written several books to include a General Chemistry textbook. Dr. Khan has also persisted in crafting a distinguished global presence by contributing to the ongoing scholarly conversation at both national and international conference proceedings.
Dr. Khan has been recognized for his stellar service to students, the research community and to West Texas A&M University. For example, he was named the Paul Engler Endowed Professor in Natural Sciences as well as the Ross W. Wilson Chair in Chemistry. Moreover, Dr. Khan seeks to forge and nurture viable contacts in the field through a sustained membership in the American Chemical Society, among other associations.
Dr. Khan credits his academic and professional advancement thus far to the inspiring legacy of his grandfather, Robert Allen Plane, who served as Provost of Cornell, President of both Clarkson University and Wells College and later returned to Cornell to direct the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station. Looking toward the future, Dr. Khan aims to broaden his administrative legacy by progressing to an associate dean position, through which he will remain committed to mentorship and to researching various types of cancer.
