Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in the mortgage lending industry, Ms. Sotzen has earned distinction as the principal underwriter for the Cardinal Financial Company. Since 2019, she has focused her efforts on training her junior employees and aiding her team of 20 members on agency guidelines and best practices. She also generates reports and conducts analyses on what work needs to be done to balance production and how she can help achieve company goals. Most recently, Ms. Sotzen obtained her designation as an automatic underwriter from the Department of Veterans Affairs VA.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Sotzen began her career as a broker coordinator for the Meritage Homes Corporation in 2001 and was promoted to an underwriter later that year. With valuable experience to her credit, she subsequently excelled in underwriting for Countrywide Home Loans Servicing LP of the Bank of America Corporation from 2005 2007. During the mortgage crisis of 2008, she shifted her focus and became a fraud analyst for JPMorgan Chase and Company; she would ultimately serve the company as a loan integrity officer from 2010 to 2015. As the market recovered, Ms. Sotzen took the opportunity to obtain her Direct Endorsement certification from the Federal Housing Administration with Bank of America.
During her time with JPMorgan Chase and Company, Ms. Sotzen focused her efforts on working alongside state and federal agencies to identify and report fraudulent activity within the financial industry for prosecution. This marked the beginning of her time as a leader for her associates, as she utilized her knowledge as an underwriter and investigator to assist others in improving their skillsets. Adjacent to her primary vocational endeavors, Ms. Sotzen also remains dedicated to civic advocacy, having served as a Paw Patrol volunteer for VITAS Healthcare since 2019. Additionally, she regularly contributes to United Way and other efforts focused on supporting homeless veterans.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Sotzen completed coursework at Illinois State University. Well-qualified in her field, she is also certified as a Level III CRU by the Mortgage Bankers Association. In light of her fulfilling career, she has largely attributed her success to her strong work ethic and dedication to her family, including her mother, Elizabeth Balding, and her grandmother, Margaret Balding.
