Since 2019, she has focused her efforts on reading doctors' notes and coding them based on Government and American Medical Association guidelines for coding. Additionally, she has been a remote IVR coder with Change Healthcare since 2013. She also lends her expertise as a valued member of the American Academy of Professional Coders, the Heart Rhythm Society and ZHealth Publishing.
Prior to starting her private career, Ms. Gersten served honorably in the United States Naval Reserve. She began her career as a practice management specialist for the Mount Carmel Health System in 1997 and was a cardiology coder for the Watson Clinic, LLP in 2001. Following this time, she served as a hospital coding specialist for Orlando Health in 2013 until becoming a coder with Optum in 2017. During this time, she was also a medical coder with the Longwood Medical Group from 2012 until 2019.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Gersten earned her coding certificate from the Central Ohio Academy of Medical Coding in 1999. In 2000 she attained her Certified Professional Coder Credential. In 2005, she attained her Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder Credential. Within the coming years, Ms. Gersten intends to move into a higher management position.
