Ms. Dodson was recruited from Lifetime Sciences in Franklin, Tennessee, as a lead specialist analyst of molecular genomics between 2017 and 2021, through which she assisted with accessioning of specimens, sample preparation and extraction, and other responsibilities. She also found success at Resolve Molecular Diagnostics as a technical supervisor from 2016 to 2017, a start-up pharmacogenomic clinical testing laboratory based in Franklin. Furthermore, Ms. Dodson held various roles with Asperio Laboratories and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
While employed by Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a core research assistant, Ms. Dodson had the opportunity to learn and improve her expertise in genomics, sequencing, and DNA extraction, ultimately enabling her to segway away from research to clinical practice. This transition also allowed her to focus on pharmacogenomics testing in the clinical setting and witness the data being applied.
Apart from her field experience, Ms. Dodson was an adjunct biology instructor at Nashville State Community College from 2017 to 2020. As a seasoned researcher and scholar, she has also contributed several peer-reviewed journal articles.
Civically invested in her community, Ms. Dodson has actively participated with the American Cancer Society and as the luminaria chair for Relay for Life. She has also served as a donor to the Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center in Murfreesboro.
In preparation for her career in the sciences, Ms. Dodson studied at Middle Tennessee State University. She received a Bachelor of Science in animal biology and general chemistry in 2002 and a Master of Science in cellular and molecular biology in 2006. She also earned several credentials, including certification in laboratory management and as a special analyst and molecular biologist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Additionally, Ms. Dodson received a medical laboratory professional license in Tennessee. She is presently pursuing certification to become a laboratory supervisor.
To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Dodson is a professional member of the ASCP. She notes her progression to continuous learning and looks forward to advancing into a management or supervisory role.
