Prior to his present roles, Mr. Werner worked within the educational sector teaching sociology and psychology and serving as a school counselor at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy from 2018 to 2019 and as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Fordham University from 2017 to 2018. Earlier, he served as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III at the Ohio Hospital for Psychiatry from 2011 to 2013. Mr. Werner gained initial experience in the field as a mental health aide for the after-school program at St. Vincent Family Center between 2010 and 2011.
To prepare for his career in counseling, Mr. Werner earned a Bachelor of Science in health sciences from the University of Cincinnati in 2007. In a career filled with highlights, Mr. Werner considers his most important transformation to be his seven years of Jesuit formation and the encounters he experienced with different populations of people, ministering and serving with the poor and undertaking the 30-day silent retreat based on the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Through such experiences, he credits his professional success to having great mentors and supervisors throughout his career journey. He was inspired by his mother, who was a psychiatrist, and his younger brother, who specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry. In addition, his sister recently completed her master's degree to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
In the next five to 10 years, Mr. Werner aims to gain more experience supervising clinicians, as he has an interest in learning more about the managerial and leadership side of the industry. He also plans to get more involved in continuing education while applying his background in philosophy. With the hopes of helping as many people as possible, he is in the process of writing a book about the unique and winding roads of his life where he overcame significant personal sufferings to begin a family of his own with his wife and children that fills him with joy and grace.
