Drawing on a 20-year career as a registered nurse and entrepreneur, Ms. Chan is distinguished as the vice president of Honor Health Sciences, the first private nursing school in the Imperial Valley region of California. At the institution, which was founded by Ms. Chan and her husband, Jeffrey, in 2022, she specializes in providing top-notch education in psychology for nurses, maternal newborn nursing, and nutrition. The response to the school has been overwhelmingly positive, with more than 300 applicants for the 24 available spots in the first class. In fact, Ms. Chan's vision and leadership has resulted in features in the Beyond Borders binational magazine, local newspapers, and Living El Centro Magazine. She has also been recognized as the 2023 Businesswoman of the Year by Imperial Valley WOW! Women of Wonder as well as by the California Senate and Legislature Assembly.
Ms. Chan was born and raised in the Philippines, where she helped in her family's restaurant. A naturally compassionate person, she was inspired to enter the nursing field after taking an interest in the varying fields of nursing, especially gerentology; after immigrating to the United States in 2007, she accepted a position as a caregiver earning $60 per day. Two years later, she took the U.S. nursing board exams and, in 2010, she obtained her license to practice as a registered nurse in California. With the Chans' growing family, they set out to find a livelihood that would enable them the flexibility to take care of their children as well. As a result, they established HealthPeak Home Health, a home health agency, and Serene Greenfield Manor Senior Care, an assisted living facility for the elderly which has two branches in the San Diego region.
Of her many professional accomplishments, Ms. Chan is especially proud of her work with HealthPeak Home Health, which has enabled her to serve underprivileged people with little access to health care. Visiting clients in their homes, getting to know them, and helping them improve their health have proven to be extremely gratifying.
Before venturing to this path, Ms. Chan earned a Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As a commitment to her field, she is a member of the International Nurses Club and American Nurses Association.
Ms. Chan is active with the American Nurses Association's Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation, Mindful Meals programs, and she is also a photographer and expert contributor of the Living El Centro Magazine for health education. In addition, she is a legacy member of the American Red Cross. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and taking part in activities supporting children with special needs, such as sponsoring events for children with autism. She and her husband have four children ranging in age from 3 to 12.
