A seasoned strategic partner with years of experience in all aspects of global human resources, Ms. Burns has recently relocated to Kansas City, Missouri following her 12-year career as the Executive Vice-President, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Senior Advisor at Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated (RGA). Since joining the organization in 2011 as RGA's first global CHRO, she has maintained responsibility for human resources transformation, the creation of enterprise-wide leadership and professional development, compensation and benefits strategies, culture and change management, and various board responsibilities including two successful CEO selection and transition efforts. Previously, Ms. Burns worked in executive human resources positions with Swiss Re based in Zurich, Switzerland, where she led global HR operations and talent development activities; and GE Capital, where she assumed roles of increasing responsibility over 17 years concluding with leadership of compensation and benefits strategies and execution for a 2,500-employee division of GE called GE Insurance Solutions.
During the early stages of her career, Ms. Burns honed her expertise in global human resources management, through GE Consumer Finance, GE Fleet Services, and GE Insurance Solutions. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, she has maintained alignment with the Society of Human Resource Management since 1992. Alongside of her work, Ms. Burns contributes to her community as vice chair and member of the board of trustees for Webster University. Likewise, she supports the United Way as a member of the Tocqueville Society and has held various leadership roles on other local non-profit boards.
An expert in her field, Ms. Burns holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Marketing and Management from Missouri Southern State University, an MBA in Human Resources Development from Webster University, a certificate in both management and human resources development from General Electric, and a Six Sigma Black Belt. Due to her breadth of knowledge, she has served as a speaker on diversity, equity, and inclusion, succession strategies, and other human resources topics. In honor of achievements, Ms. Burns received a Visionary Award from Webster University, two GE Capital Pinnacle Awards, the GE Capital Summit Award, and the GE Insurance Solutions Summit Award. Likewise, she was named Most Resourceful Human by the RGA board of directors and one of the 25 Most Influential Women in St. Louis.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Burns takes the most pride in working with Reinsurance Group of America during two successful chief executive officer successions. She also sees the cornerstone of her success as her ability to drive effective change. Ms. Burns has recently started her own consulting business and plans to continue her charitable responsibilities.
