Since 2019, he has retired from his medical practice to focus his efforts on researching and providing innovative medical solutions for patients with traumatic brain injuries, Sleep Apnea, Altitude Illnesses and more. During his 30-year clinical career, he served as Chief of Medicine for four years and was also a valued member of the Indiana State Medical Society.
Outside of his clinical efforts, Dr. Smith had served as a visiting research scientist for Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the University of Cincinnati, the West Virginia University (Neurosurgery Division), and the North Shore University Health System (Chicago). He consulted for the likes of GlaxoSmithKline, GENTEX Corp and Material Modification Inc. (at the Army Research Lab). Additionally, he had proctored a clinical site for both the Butler University's Physician Assistant program and the Indiana University Medical School. Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, he lends his expertise as a co-founder and board member for the Cincinnati Classical Academy.
After residency, Dr. Smith began his clinical career as a faculty member for Reid Hospital in 1989 and retired from that role in 2016. Over the course of his career, he has contributed articles to more than 25 medical journals and has registered more than 40 patents in his field. He authored and continues to pioneer "BRAIN SLOSH Theory™," which depicts a pathway to mitigate energy absorption into brains to prevent and even reverse traumatic brain injuries. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1982 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1986. Following these achievements, he underwent an internship at the Case Western Reserve University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1987 and completed a residency program in internal medicine at the same institution in 1989. Well-qualified in his field, he held a medical license with the State of Ohio and the State of Indiana and was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine during his clinical career.
Within the coming years, Dr. Smith intends to continue researching the prevention of traumatic brain injuries with technologies the likes of "CPR for the Brain™", the SAGE Rebreather™, and Vitruvius™ (facilitating the Glymphatic System).
