Mr. Chodos is a vice chairman in the Chicago office of Newmark, a global real estate firm, where since 2016 he has deployed his distinctive expertise in commercial real estate, real estate investment and tenant representation. Formerly a professional ski racer, he was recruited to the industry in 1981 by a former sponsor and real estate company owner, Wes Irvine with the firm Irvine Associates. In 1991, he joined The John Buck Company (JBC) as a senior broker. By 1996, he had progressed to the role of principal and leader of JBC's Strategic Advisory Group at this prominent full-service advisory and development firm. Mr. Chodos excelled through 2005 with JBC, asserting a positive, collaborative presence in the initiation of what are considered some of Chicago's top tier, world-renowned buildings.
Mr. Chodos proudly accepted a distinguished offer to onboard as a principal and executive vice president at Colliers International in 2005, an opportunity that afforded him critical opportunities to hone his signature approach to analysis and negotiation. At Colliers, he was also instrumental in forming the company's Occupier Advisors Practice Group, which assembled the companies tenant representative brokers from more than 25 offices positioned in the United States and Canada. He was elected as Chairman of that group following its inception. To date, Mr. Chodos counts his formation and affiliation with such a diverse and talented contingent as one of his most notable professional accomplishments.
In 2016, Mr. Chodos was recruited to join Newmark's Chicago operations where he works today. During his career advising companies on real estate strategies that "create places where they generate great profit," he has represented over 17 mm square feet of projects valued at more than $8.1 billion.
Mr. Chodos has earned ample recognition for his professional success and civic service, including being named the Chicago Tenant Representative Broker of the Year by the Greater Chicago Food Depository in both 1991 and 1997; notably, he has earned nine nominations in total for that honor. Additionally, Mr. Chodos secured the Innovative Deal of the Year commendation from the Greater Chicago Food Depository in 2013, the Deal of the Year from the same in 2022 and the NAIOP Downtown Office Transaction of the Year in 2012.
Civically, Mr. Chodos is an Emeritus board member of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana where he served for nine years from 2005 to 2015. He was instrumental in organizing two major hurricane relief fundraisers for both Katrina and Harvey, raising over $2 mm combined for the Red Cross. He was acknowledged with the prestigious "Westbury Award" in 2006 and their top board member award, "The Heritage Award" in 2018. Additionally, Mr. Chodos has also been an active member of the board and executive committee for Junior Achievement of Chicago (JA) for over 35 years. JA delivers highly effective economic literacy programs to over 300,000 K-12 students annually, in the Chicago Metro Region. In 2016, Mr. Chodos was awarded the "Motorola Legacy Award," the highest honor given to board members and supporters of Junior Achievement's mission.
