Now retired, Dr. Cornet began his teaching career as a Professor of Physical and Historical Geology with the Raritan Valley Community College of New Jersey, then taught those subjects at the El Paso Community College of Texas, and at the Dona Ana Branch Community College of New Mexico State University. Between undergraduate semesters of college in the mid-1960s he joined Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company, now known as Raytheon Technologies Corporation, and Carling Electric Company of Connecticut as a chemist and electrical engineer, respectively.
Between 1983 and his retirement in 2008, Dr. Cornet honed his expertise in geological modeling, geophysical interpretation, and palynological sampling and analysis as an independent geological consultant, postdoctoral research associate through Columbia University, Chief Consulting Geologist and as a Staff Associate for Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. Due to his vast breadth of knowledge and love of photography, he began teaching before the turn of the century, working as an MCAT Instructor for Princeton Review, and then as a Professional Photographer for Lors Studio in New Jersey. Since retiring in 2008, Dr. Cornet has focused his energy on writing, authoring such works as "Unconventional Aerial Phenomena in the Hudson and Wallkill River Valley of New York," and publishing hundreds of web pages describing 140 UAP sightings with pictures and videos, and on ET Contact and Abduction.
An expert in his field, Dr. Cornet completed coursework in zoology and pre-medical studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Connecticut. Subsequently, he received a Master of Science in paleobotany and botany from his alma mater and a PhD in palynology and geology from The Pennsylvania State University. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Cornet aligned himself with such organizations as the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the American Association of Stratigraphic Palynologists, The Botanical Society of America, and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.
Due to his expansive knowledge, Dr. Cornet has also curated and co-curated collections for the Virginia Museum of Natural History, the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, and Rocky Hill Dinosaur Park. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in winning the Contact in Context Award for Best Ideas for his paper with Scot L. Stride of JPL in the Journal of Research on Life in the Universe, involving Solar System SETI Using Radio Telescope Arrays for detecting ET signals within our Solar System.
During the 1990s he served as wellsite geologist for the largest National Science Foundation grant to Dr. Paul E. Olsen of Columbia University, describing 28,000 feet of cores from seven wells in the Newark Basin, which unearthed the first detailed history of the earth's climate preceding and during the early age of dinosaurs. He also recovered from two wells in the Richmond Basin of Virginia the first detailed evolutionary record of distinctive fossil angiosperm pollen in rocks 110 million years older than the oldest Early Cretaceous angiosperm fossils. One year earlier he discovered the complete fossil remains of the oldest angiosperm from Late Triassic rocks in the Panhandle of Texas, which included well-preserved leaves, flowers, carpels, pollen, seeds, stem and root anatomy of the dicot Sanmiguelia lewisii. That discovery solved Darwin's 19th century Abominable Mystery of Angiosperm Origin. The cornerstone of his success lay in his insatiable curiosity about the world.
