He also found it difficult to find employees with integrity that he could trust. Moreover, managing franchised-owned and operated businesses was sometimes challenging because, ultimately, Mr. Sundby was expected to oversee operations according to their preferences rather than his.
Despite the common setbacks of running a successful restaurant, Mr. Sundby found great rewards as a leader in the industry. He credits his good fortune to building great teams that could rely on and work well together. He also took a unique approach to management by setting goals and timelines for his employees rather than depending on micromanaging tactics.
Locally invested, Mr. Sundby was active with his local chamber of commerce, having served as a past president for two years. He also frequently volunteered to raise funds for various causes, including his son's sports teams, an annual 5K run that provided scholarships to deserving students, and other local initiatives that assisted the needy throughout his community. Furthermore, Mr. Sundby was recognized for generously donating to a worthy students college fund to honor her friend who was killed in a vehicular accident. Looking toward the future, he envisions becoming active in politics by supporting a senatorial candidate.
