Prior to his current role, Dr. Thrasher began his career as a clinical associate of medicine from The University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine in 1980 and became a clinical instructor of medicine in 1983. During this time, he served as vice president of the medical staff for Jackson Hospital in 1987 and was promoted to the chief of staff in 1988 and to the chairman of the department of medicine in 1989. He continued his career as the president of the board of directors for the Montgomery Surgical Center in 1992 for two years and was also the director of respiratory therapy from 1983 until 2022.
Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, Dr. Thrasher lends his medical expertise as a member of the Alabama State Board of Public Health and as a valued member of the board of directors for the Auburn University Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also serves as a member of the board of directors for the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the board of trustees for Jackson Hospital. Additionally, he is a committed volunteer with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America as well as the Boy Scouts of America, having received recognition with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1997 and Outstanding Community Service in 2015 for his efforts.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Thrasher is proud to have received numerous awards, including a W. Kelly Mosley Environment Award from Auburn University, the Battle S. Searcy, III Memorial Award for Psychiatry, and International Quality of Life Award and the Ethics in Business Award, COVID-19 Hero from the Samaritan Counseling Center in 2021. He was also inducted to the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and named a Champion of Character by the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition in 2022. Additionally, he was admitted as a diplomate to the National Board of Medical Examiners in 1979, the American Board of Internal Medicine for the Subspecialty in Pulmonary Medicine in 1981 and the American Board of Internal Medicine the same year.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Thrasher earned a Bachelor of Science in biology in 1972 and a Master of Science in fisheries biology in 1974, both from Auburn University. Following these achievements, he attained a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine in 1977 and underwent an internship at their University Hospital the following year. He subsequently completed a residency program at the same institution in 1987 and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine in 1982.
