In January 2023, after nearly than three decades of excellence in water and wastewater utility management, Mr. Merejo was appointed City Manager for the City of Port St. Lucie, Florida where he is responsible for the executive management and oversite of all aspects of the city's operations that includes more than 1,300 employees and budgets totaling more than $731 million annually. He is committed to a leadership approach that focusses on strategic planning and development of effective teams that provide high quality and cost effective services to the City's growing population of nearly 250,000. He also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the city's Governmental Finance Corporation and provides strategic direction for the continuing development of the City-owned 1,200-acre Tradition Regional Commerce Park.
Mr. Merejo joined the organization in 1989 and held several positions of increasing responsibility in the Utility Systems Dept. until ultimately serving fifteen years as Utility Systems Director. He joined the City Manager's executive leadership team in 2016 and assumed oversite of certain enterprise ventures and capital projects as well as administration of the Public Works/Engineering Department, Parks & Recreation Department, and Building Department while continuing to direct all aspects of the Utility Systems Department.
In 2020, Mr. Merejo was appointed Chief Assistant City Manager. While serving on behalf of the City Manager on projects involving long-term community planning, economic development, enterprise ventures, and capital improvements, he was also the team leader of the City's internal Land Development Functional Group including administrative oversite of five departments.
Mr. Merejo holds a bachelor's degree in Organizational Management from Warner Southern College. He lends his expertise as a valued member of the International City/County Management Association, the Florida City and County Managers Association, the American Public Works Association, the American Water Works Association, the Florida Water Pollution Control Operator Association, and the Florida Water and Wastewater Treatment Exam Advisory Board.
In the coming years, Mr. Merejo intends to ensure the City continues to be a good steward of all taxpayer and utility customer revenues. He will continue to encourage all areas of the organization to embrace innovation and emerging technologies as they are critical to the City's ability to provide the highest quality of services in the most efficient and cost-effective ways to the entire community.
