Mr. Chorney is a tangible investment and financial services expert with more than 60 years of expertise in his field. He is the president of the Cumberland Investment Corporation and the founder of the Money School of Boston, where he has dedicated over three decades to helping educate consumers and investors about ways to take control of their financial future. Mr. Chorney is a subject matter expert in portable wealth and collectible items, including coins, stamps, and jewelry, and in their place in a diversified investment portfolio. Founded in 1981, Cumberland Investment Corporation began as a family-owned coin shop and has expanded to offer a variety of consulting services.
Before beginning his career in financial services, Mr. Chorney earned a Bachelor's degree in Russian studies from Brown University, graduating in 1961. He spent the next 13 years as a member of the United States Air Force, including five years of active duty service and flew 37 missions to Vietnam. Mr. Chorney rose to the rank of Captain before retiring from the military to pursue additional education and professional opportunities in sales and education. From 1967 to 1976 Mr. Chorney taught math at Woonsocket Jr. High School. He then started a part time coin and precious metals business which eventually became Cumberland Investment Corporation.
After establishing Cumberland Investment Corporation, Mr. Chorney continued to pursue more opportunities in financial consulting and education. In 1983, he established the Registered Tangible Investment Advisors' Association, where he remains president, and in 1984 he created the Money School of Boston to share his professional insights directly with independent investors.
Further ventures have included Wescap Enterprises LTD, where he served as CEO from 1984 until 2010, and the National Center for Bankruptcy Accountability, an advocacy and education project created to help independent entrepreneurs navigate the bankruptcy process. Mr. Chorney is the author of "Pie-Rats, Those Who Plunder You in Bankruptcy," 2016. He is an active member of numerous professional organizations related to his areas of specialty, including the American Numismatic Association, the American Philatelic Society and the Gemological Institute of America, and is an avid supporter of several veterans' and service members' groups such as the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Chorney credits his success to tenacity, integrity, and the family values instilled in him while growing up, and hopes to continue his work for as long as he is able.
