Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in scientific research, Mr. Leon has earned distinction as the director of research for the New Jersey Institute of Technology College of Science and Liberal Arts. Since 2015, he has focused his efforts on facilitating collaboration for researchers and guiding graduate students in achieving their dreams and aspirations. He also collaborates with faculty and colleagues to identify federal grants supporting their research. Additionally, he has served as a global facilitator, coach, and trainer for the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education since 2011.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Mr. Leon serves as an advisory board stakeholder for the Long Branch Public School District at the New Jersey Department of Education. He also lends his expertise as a consultant for the Collaborative for Leadership, Education, and Assessment Research program at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, he is a valued member of the Eddie Bernice Johnson INCLUDES National Network at the National Science Foundation, and a mentor for the Asociación EXATEC Quito.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Leon began his career with an actor internship, serving as a research assistant for the Secretaría de Educación Pública in 1997 and earning a promotion to a professional actor and producer in 2002. While in this role, he was also an instructional designer and trainer with Secretaría de Educación Pública until 2012 and served as the resident director of the international studies abroad program for Xalapa from 2007 until 2010. After immigrating to the United States in 2012, he became the interim associate director of e-learning for Ocean County College in 2014.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Leon has contributed a wealth of articles to professional journals, including co-authoring "Collaborating Toward Convergence Efforts for K-20 STEM Education" in 2022 and "LiFE: Collaboration Potentials and Partnerships. Bringing ERCs into the INCLUDES National Network" in 2019. He was also a key co-author of "Collaborative Co-design for Community Change. Collaborative Change Models," which was featured in NSF Includes National Network Virtual Convening: Mobilizing to Transform Systems in 2021. He also co-authored the book "Reflections on Communication, Collaboration, and Convergence: Strategic models for STEM education and research" in 2023 and two book chapters "Modelo General Particular Especifico (GPE)" and "Modelo Universal de Planificación Estratégica (UPE)" in 2022.
Among his professional achievements, Mr. Leon is proud of having obtained an honorable mention of excellence "summa cum laude" in his master's studies, and five years later he received an appointment as EXATEC Generation Leader from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, being the first alumni of the Virtual University to receive said recognition in the history of the institution in 2015.
Prior to this, he was honored with an advisory mentor for the technological prototype "Farewell to the leaks" by the Secretaria de Educación Pública in 2011; this project was competed at the international prototypes contest for the Dirección General de Educación Tecnológica Industrial.
In addition, he was part of the team of administrators who were instrumental in the implementation of the Streamlyne electronic administration software, which facilitated the transition from the R2 designation to the R1 designation of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education in 2019.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Leon earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Cultural Promotion from Universidad Veracruzana in Mexico in 1999. Following this achievement, he attained a diploma in management skills, management competence, senior management, and consulting public servants from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in 2011. He subsequently gained a Master of Business Administration in e-commerce from the same institution in 2015. Well-qualified in his field, he holds numerous professional certifications in management, including a certification in social and behavioral research, a preventing harassment and discrimination certificate, and certifications in sponsored research administration, among other qualifications.
In 2023, Mr. León intends to finish a PhD program in institutional management and innovation with a specialization in international business from the IEU University in Veracruz, Mexico. This will allow him to move closer to his medium-term aspirational goal of being a vice chancellor for research at a university with the long-term goal of later becoming president. His ultimate goal is to continue creating innovative connections through his work, moving towards generating convergence to achieve synergy in society for future generations.
