UNIONDALE, NY, June 20, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Nirmala Menikpura has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
An analytical environmental specialist with more than a decade and a half of experience in climate change, sustainability, waste management, life cycle assessments, policy analysis, and more, Dr. Menikpura presently excels as the principal consultant of Resources Futures in the UK. In this capacity, she assists in the development of carbon models via life cycle assessment perspectives for assessing the climate impact from various sectors. Recently, Dr. Menikpura developed a carbon footprint assessment model on behalf of the British Coating Federation for assessing end-of-life leftover paint and treatment methods in the United Kingdom.
Previously, Dr. Menikpura has worked as a Fellow and policy researcher with Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan, and as a consultant for the Energy Savings Trust (EST) in the UK, and as a researcher for King Mongkut's University of Technology, Thailand. Dr Menikpura has proven abilities to develop global-level environmental/climate tools/models to assess climate change, sustainability, and resource circularity via a life cycle assessment perspective. Quantitative models that she developed, like Emission Quantification Tool (EQT) and IGES-GHG calculator to quantify the life cycle climate impact from the waste sector, are being extensively used at the international level for policy and decision-making. She has extensive experience in conducting field surveys for original data collection and quantifying the climate and other environmental impacts of various waste treatment options in different countries, namely, UK, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Taiwan, India, China, Japan, and Sri Lanka. The findings of these studies helped provide evidence-based policies and strategies at the city or national levels on sustainable waste management. Dr. Menikpura's most recent consultancy work with the Energy Saving Trust, UK, was to assess the lifecycle-based climate footprint and circularity of off-grid and weak-grid cold rooms and refrigeration technologies in the African region. During the early stages of her career, Dr. Menikpura oversaw research teams and taught environmental engineering through varying roles with the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
Due to her vast breadth of professional knowledge, Dr. Menikpura has contributed to publications in the Journal of Renewable Energy, the Journal of Cleaner Production, the Journal of Waste Management, and many others. Along with other industry scholars, she wrote such articles as "Assessing the Climate Co-benefits from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Recycling in Japan" and "Integrated Solid Waste Management: An Approach for Enhancing Climate Co-benefits through Resource Recovery."
An expert in her field, Dr. Menikpura earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering and a Master of Science in Biosystems Engineering from the University of Peradeniya and a PhD in Environmental Technology from King Mongkut's University of Technology. Driven to remain aware of ongoing industry changes, she aligns herself with the Soil Science Society, a member of Commonwealth's Specialist's Pool for Small States and Climate Finance, and the Working Group of Asia Resource Circulation Policy Research. In light of her outstanding body of work, Dr. Menikpura won various Best Presenter Awards through the University of Peradeniya and the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environment.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Menikpura is most proud of growing from strength to strength to become an international key leader in the field. Similarly, she is honored to be working on the climate change issue, the most pervasive threat the world has ever experienced. The cornerstone of her overall success lay in her upbringing and education. Within the next five to ten years, Dr. Menikpura aims to achieve target climate change mitigation goals and continue support policy and decision-making in the industry to reach net zero by 2050.
