For more than seven years, Dr. Robinson has found success in administration as the associate dean of students and as the director of student health services at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. As a licensed psychologist, she oversees medical services, handles various administrative tasks, and sees patients. The college notably maintains a contract with Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Robinson holds a private practice providing individual, family, and couples counseling. She has also specialized in treating the youth and young adult members of the LGBTQ community and garners clinical and program development expertise for working with sexual assault survivors.
Dr. Robinson's professional goals at the institution include finding ways to efficiently meet acuity and students' needs. She also aims to promote college mental health as it changes throughout the nation while also supporting her staff in doing the same. Despite having to go virtual for several months during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ringling College expanded its telehealth services, which changed how students had access to health care, ultimately revolutionizing the perspective of mental health. Dr. Robinson attributes much of her academic success to building a team to support and collaborate with her.
Dr. Robinson was formerly employed by the Counseling and Wellness Center at New College of Florida in Sarasota between 2009 and 2015, through which she rose to the rank of associate director before being acquired by Ringling College. Throughout her professional career, she has earned experience in diverse clinical settings ranging from inpatient units for children and adults and outpatient community mental health services to school and college settings. Moreover, Dr. Robinson has become proficient in providing services to individuals of all ages and has acquired experience providing court-ordered evaluations and consulting.
Apart from her paid positions, Dr. Robinson has served on the board of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She also supports Teen Court of Sarasota Inc., a local nonprofit organization in Sarasota that works with children that have previously been arrested, providing them with educational opportunities and access to mental health and social services to prevent future bad behavior.
Before embarking on her professional career, Dr. Robinson earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at the College of Holy Cross in Massachusetts in 2003. She subsequently earned a Doctor of Clinical Psychology specializing in children and adolescents from the University of Hartford in 2009. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Robinson's credit include a pre-doctoral internship at The Children's Home in Tampa, Florida, with an emphasis on childhood trauma and evaluation, a rotation in a dual diagnosis adult inpatient unit at Manatee Glens Hospital in Bradenton, Florida, a postdoctoral residency at New College of Florida in Sarasota, and credentials as a college and university suicide prevention specialist through the American Society of Suicidality.
Dr. Robinson remains aware of developments in her field as a member of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors, the American College Counseling Association (ACCA), and the American College Health Association. In recognition of her success, she was honored with a Director of the Year Award from the ACCA in 2020.
