Ms. Johnston was hired by her alma mater, The Baptist College of Florida (BCF), in May 2022 as its new Institutional Effectiveness assistant and LiveText Manager. Responsible for ensuring that the college remains competitive through accreditation, she also manages the data collection software, LiveText, which monitors student progress, and constructs course evaluations, which enables students to provide feedback. Moreover, Ms. Johnston serves the Accreditation Liaison by collecting data for accreditation reports, which entails sending out and collecting surveys and aggregating data. Aside from her administrative involvement, Ms. Johnston remains active as a pianist and accompanist for various ensembles. She plays on campus and travels to other states to perform in music events. She is also an assistant in the Music and Worship Division.
Previously, Ms. Johnston was employed by BCF as an assistant in the Teacher Education Division, through which she was primarily engaged in library work. Besides her academic commitments, she is the Holmes Creek Baptist Church pianist in Chipley, FL. This paid position includes accompanying the choir and playing for the worship service. Ms. Johnston is also a private piano teacher who tutors two students.
Avid about giving back, Ms. Johnston has been volunteering as part of the O'Brien Baptist Emergency Food Pantry at O'Brien Baptist Church in O'Brien, Florida, since she was 11. She continues to visit and support the church as much as possible when she is nearby. During her many years of service, Ms. Johnston helped fill grocery bags for needy people and participated in various other duties. Ultimately, she was appointed as the administration desk manager.
Ms. Johnston graduated from BCF with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, summa cum laude, in 2021. She is presently pursuing a Master of Arts in Music on campus. She is notably a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Looking toward the future, Ms. Johnston aims to use her degrees to become a music history professor.
Crediting her perseverance to her success, Ms. Johnston also credits her faith. Furthermore, she is grateful to her mother for her influence while coming of age. Her mother played piano and enrolled Ms. Johnston in lessons when she was six. Within a decade, Ms. Johnston had exceeded expectations and began studying under the tutelage of several professors at a local community college until she graduated from high school.
