Backed by years of professional experience in volunteer and nonprofit management, theology, discipleship, and business, Mr. Mears presently serves as the planning and policy coordinator for Ambassadors Football, a faith-based organization that aims to transform individuals and communities by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through soccer. In this capacity, he works with the international leadership team in the areas of strategic planning as well as developing organizational policy.
During the early stages of his career, Mr. Mears gained valuable expertise in the field of volunteer management and ministry as a missionary to Haiti under Crossworld. From 2000 to 2003 he worked closely with the Union Evangelique Baptiste D'Haiti, the denomination of churches which Crossworld started in the 1940's. Then from 2006 to 2015 he was seconded to Ambassadors Football in order to pioneer the work of the organization in Haiti; in 2015 he switched to Crossworld and joined Ambassadors Football and continues to work with Ambassadors Football to date. Upon his return from Haiti, Mr. Mears started a soccer ministry in Pennsylvania and currently coaches twice a week in sports ministries run by satellite churches of Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale.
An expert in his field, Mr. Mears holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Wharton School and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in organizational leadership from Cairn University. He spent the first part of his career in business, working for Manufacturers Hanover Trust in New York City and then spent seven years helping to found The Educational Consortium (http://eratespecialist.org), an E-rate consulting firm, in 1991.
Mr. Mears received an award from Ambassadors Football for his work in Haiti, during which time he was robbed and shot through the leg while delivering audio-visual equipment to be used for evangelism by his Haitian coaches. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in serving with Crossworld and Ambassadors Football, through which he founded a soccer ministry in Haiti. Many of the children with whom he worked could not afford school, which prompted him to partner with Dr. Kelly Crowdis of Christian Veterinary Mission to train coaches and players throughout Haiti in goat husbandry and gave over 400 goats to players to raise.
