HAMMOND, LA, May 04, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Stephen Suber, MusD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Suber celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Suber is a renowned composer of more than 50 years who also became a distinguished and tenured professor of music and music history, affiliated with Southeastern Louisiana University since 1982. An expert in composition, history, and music theory, he is passionate about teaching and hearing his music concepts come to life through his students. During his tenure, Dr. Suber also served in several instrumental roles on campus on various university committees. Before being recruited to Louisiana, he spent two years as a faculty member at Indiana University. During an earlier stage of his career, Dr. Suber also had the opportunity to teach as a Visiting Lecturer in Composition at Indiana University's School of Music.
With a musical career that began in 1971, Dr. Suber has composed approximately 55 pieces throughout his lifetime, much of which was written extensively for the media and heard at national venues, particularly in the Southeast and Europe. He also worked with Terry Riley, a famous American minimalist composer, which was a career highlight. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Suber earned a residency at The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation Colony in Taos, New Mexico, in 1989. Some of his works were also commissioned by the Louisiana Music Teachers Association in 1992, which premiered that same year by the Southeastern Louisiana Chamber Orchestra. Aside from his career in the field, Dr. Huber has lent his expertise to various composition contests.
Avid of giving back, Dr. Suber has been engaged in various civic initiatives. He has also led philanthropic efforts supporting a family financially in the Philippines since 2006.
Born in Albuquerque, Dr. Suber traveled extensively while coming of age as the son of a military personnel member. Music, which played a significant role in his life, led him to begin learning the piano from a Julliard graduate while living in Turkey. After high school, Dr. Suber earned a Bachelor of Arts from Principia College, a Master of Music from Mills College, and a Doctor of Music from Indiana University.
To remain abreast in his field, Dr. Suber has been a member of the Broadcast Music Institute, the Society of Composers Incorporated, and the American Composer's Forum. He is also a member of the American Composers Alliance, where much of his music can be found.
Among a myriad of accolades, Dr. Suber was named as the Composer of the Year by the National Music Teachers Association in 1993. He also received a Third Prize for his contributions to a piano concerto called "Enchantments: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra" at the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra under conductor Gerald Schwarz in 1993 and later released on CD. Dr. Suber's 1981 "Symphony of Wind and Light" was also recognized at the Indiana State University Orchestral Composition Contest in 1983, won Fourth Prize in the Louisville Competition in 1984, and was subsequently performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and recorded on the first edition label by the LSO. "Symphony:" was notably written in memory of his brother, who was killed in the Vietnam War. Attributing his success as a musician to a higher source, Dr. Suber admits he has no control over his talent and feels fortunate to have been chosen.
